Adams Chapel AME Church

Valerie Walker, M. Div., Pastor

About Adams Chapel

Adams Chapel is an African Methodist Episcopal Church. The word African means that the church was organized by people of African descent and heritage. It does not mean that the church was founded in Africa or that it is for persons of African descent only. We welcome people regardless of racial or ethnic background. Thus, a part of our motto is "humankind our family"(originally "man our brother").

The church's roots are within the Methodist family of churches. Methodism provides an orderly system of rules and regulations which gives structure to our assemblies and ministries. Methodism also places emphasis on the simplicity of the gospel message and the adherence to biblical faith.

Episcopal refers to the form of government under which the church operates. The chief executive and administrative officers of the African Methodist Episcopal denomination are the Bishops of the church. The Book of Discipline and Doctrines of the AME Church houses our "constitution," laws, and judicial structure. In addition, it delineates key doctrinal statements and emphasizes the Bible as our only source for doctrine and beliefs.

The term Church affirms that we are a part of the called out assembly of our Lord Jesus Christ. Christ is the Head of the Church, the Chief Bishop, the Great Shepherd and Overseer of our souls, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession.
